During my recent shopping trip to Target, I decided to peruse the makeup aisles for new products and for eye popping eye shadow palettes. Each season I like to purchase at least one trendy palette of eye shadow and stock up on lip gloss.
While at Target, I learned about e.l.f. cosmetics. The acronym stands for Eyes Lips Face, and has an entire line of cosmetics for an extremely low cost. The budget friendly line offers options to its eye shadow counterparts which were ranging in the $8 to $10 range. The line also had several tools such as brushes and puffs. Each of the items was $1 or $3.
After looking through the palettes, I decided to purchase Silver Lining, Day 2 Night and Butternut. The latter of the two are muted, soft browns and beiges, but the Silver Lining was my trendy pick for the season.
e.l.f. eye shadows are available in single pots, trays and large professional style makeup cases. My selection is in a tray with four triangular sections. The shades are pale lavender, lavender, gray and purple. The eye shadow is not highly pigmented, so I wondered how much of a pop these colors would have.
I applied the eye shadow like I would any other eye shadow and it felt very light. It was smooth and the colors blended well together.
I used my fingers to apply the base color on my entire lid and used the e.l.f. essential eye shadow brush to add my crease color. I also used a blending brush to make sure there weren’t any hard lines between my crease and upper lid.
My eyes are almond shaped, which often leads to excessive creasing with most eye shadows. I have foregone cream shadows for this reason, and now only use powder. Due to this, I was intrigued by the sales pitch. According to the e.l.f package it is “light reflecting, crease resistant and long wear” eye shadow.
I was skeptical, but I was completely proven wrong. My $1 investment turned out to be one of the best crease free eye shadows I have purchased. I applied the eye shadow at ten o’ clock, and it was still intact by the time I went to bed at 10 p.m.
My total purchase
The cost of the eye shadow palette was $1. My entire purchase which included four brushes, three eye shadow palettes, and one bronzer was $8, plus tax.
Would I buy e.l.f again?
I would buy the e.l.f eye makeup products again in the future. Besides the fact that it wears well and is budget friendly, it did not cause any kind of allergic reaction to my skin. I have skin sensitivities with some makeup items, but e.l.f Silver Lining looked and felt great.
