No other eligible items under the eBay terms of service were effected, and this includes automotive parts and vehicles, real estate, commerical and industrial equipment, and other merchandise.
In making this new restriction, no press release or other reasons were provided by eBay for the abrupt change in policy regarding gold and silver purchases. In fact, since the economic turmoil and currency wars began in the global economy, eBay sales of gold and silver have skyrocketed to the point that eBay created a separate and unique category for precious metal transactions.
What is the eBay Bucks Rewards Program?
The eBay Bucks Rewards Program is designed to reward eBay members for purchasing items on www.ebay.com and www.ebay.ca. If you join, you’ll automatically accrue rewards in the form of eBay Bucks based on your qualifying purchases. Upon the completion of each calendar quarter, the eBay Bucks you earned over that 3 month period will be issued to you in the form of an eBay Bucks Certificate. You can use this Certificate to buy more things on eBay! – Ebay
Since the new policy was instituted today, there is not a great deal of information to speculate as to why the auction giant suddenly changed their eBay Bucks policy. However, with nations around the world suddenly finding gold and silver as a growing alternative to the fiat currencies such as the dollar and euro, it would not be surprising if eBay were under pressure by a higher authority to dissuade customers from buying precious metals.
eBay found a comeback in the past year when they instituted the eBay Bucks reward program, and it was widely used by customers looking to buy and sell gold and silver through their online auction house. This new policy change by eBay to restrict the rewards of eBay Bucks for those who purchase the precious metals however, appears to have come without warning, and seems to be a direct attack on gold and silver buyers since no other eligible items were added to the restriction list.
