Audrey “Egypt” Blanc is a local Newark, NJnative who is no novice to being an entrepreneur. Egyptwhich she is widely known as is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of “The Movement Magazine”. The Movement Magazine was established in 2010 and is rapidly becoming one of the premier sources for entertainment news, the magazine’s motto is “The Movement Magazine, It’s Not Just Literature!”
What inspired you to create the magazine?
Egypt:Well, basically what inspired me was the lack there of opportunities for, I would say, black females in this industry. So, I wanted to create opportunities for myself as well as others and let other people know that we can do things ourselves as opposed to waiting around for someone to do things for us. So, just me wanting to be successful on one hand, but then create an opportunity on another; it is more about creating opportunities because I feel as though I can help somebody else in return.
What motivates you? There is so much doom and groom about having a business or being an entrepreneur. What’s keeps you going?
Egypt:Well actually my family and looking at my son, he’s in college and I’m so extremely proud of him and I’m always telling him that knowledge is power. And you should create your own destiny as opposed to try and grab a job. I’m not saying anything is wrong with the job but at the end of the day you want to be able to be in control of your destiny. All in the high power of God and of course with prayer. But, at the end of the day, my family inspires me.
What’s in the future for “The Movement Magazine”?
Egypt:Well, “The Movement Magazine”, I can basically see it becoming the premier magazine for the urban lifestyle. But again not necessarily for the urban lifestyle because we’re actually going national. I really think that for music, entertainment, and upcoming book authors. We’re giving the opportunities for people that probably wouldn’t get an opportunity in the magazines such as Ebony and Essence, but they would get an opportunity in “The Movement Magazine”.
