Fans of the “baby bulls” have been in hog heaven for two days at the South Point Hotel and Casino. On Monday, the American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) hosted the Classic Wild Card event, paying out $25,000 to the winner, Rack Em Up from Boyd and Floyd.
On Tuesday, Exclusive Genetics took its turn in the South Point Arena, beginning in the morning with the Vegas Shootout. The Shootout is for yearling bulls and offered $50,000 to the winner. They capped the night with the opening round of the Million Dollar Bucking Bull Futurity (MDBBF). The top five bulls from this competition for two year olds advance to a special final round on Friday night; at the conclusion of Friday’s sudden death competition, the winner receives $500,000.
All events are in conjunction with the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Built Ford Tough World Finals, which begins Wednesday night at 6 PM at the Thomas & Mack Arena on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV).
Exclusive Genetics hosts its events as the culmination of a drafting process by which fans can buy their own bulls by choosing the genetic crosses of their choice.
The Vegas Shootout was won by 013, a bull that marked 87.25 points on the judges’ sheets and is owned by Curtis Leschyshyn. The bulls buck for four seconds with a 13 pound dummy which falls off after the four seconds are complete. Owners paid $2000 in entry fees for their bulls to compete. Six judges marked each bull with the high and low scores dropped for a possible 100 points.
In a tight competition, the top ten bulls were seperated by just four points.
In the high drama action of the MDBBF, the two year olds bucked for six seconds under the same rules as the Shootout. The top five advance to a special finals during the PBR Finals on Friday night. All scores are erased and the high marked out on Friday will earn $500,000.
The Finalists in the MDBBF are Big Guy, OMG, Dagger, Double Down and J Flash.
