You never know what weather the autumn season will bring. The last few days have been quite humid with temps remaining average. Rain and blustery days will soon follow as the days become a little cooler. One of the first areas to receive a chill is the bedroom. After you have tackled your bedding (see “3 Simple Bedding Tips for the Fall Season”), it is time to take on the rest of your room. Let’s look at ways to bring the fall season into your bedroom.
.) Warm Up Your Room with Wood – We can’t express how much we love wood in the bedroom. Reminding us of toasty firewood, incorporate wood through bedroom furniture. Dressers, bedside tables and armoires are great pieces to make a stately impression. Throw in unrefined benches to evoke a country-inspired bedroom suite. All of these pieces will not only keep you warm in the fall, but also the winter season. Looking for a little more texture? Mix it up with woven woods like jute and sea grass.
.) Go Wild with Candles – Please be careful not to burn your bedroom down, but do display your wonderful candles. Candles are a fall favorite for their gentle light and touch of heat. Pillar candles in particular are nice for the bedroom because their size makes them visible practically anywhere. Place them on trays at the food of your bed (use a sturdy surface like a bench), or your dresser or around the room for soft illumination. Wall sconces are the best way to make your candles’ glow float throughout the room.
.) Enhance Your Mirrors – Over the next several months, a mirror will become your best friend. As the days turn shorter, natural light will soon decrease. Mirrors not only help expand your space but will also capture and reflect any light in the room. Choose mirrors that have frames for extra character. Leaning floor mirrors are both functional and visually stimulating.
.) Enrich Your Bedroom with a Fab Rug – Textiles have the power to transform any interior without replacing big-ticket furniture pieces. Rugs command a visual presence while stirring up dimension. Show off your love of fall withseasonal colors (see “2011 Top Fall Decorating Colors”) and prints. You can also keep it natural with jute rugs. Use a large area rug to encompass your entire space or a smaller one for a decorative touch. Regardless of your choice, rest assured that rugs can and will make a stylish difference.
