Oliver Gospel Mission Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store at 10012 Two Notch Road (where Ace Hardware used to be) opened its doors for the first time in July of this year. After two months of renovating, upgrading, cleaning, polishing and stocking, we have yet another thrift store to add to our growing list of Columbia’s finest. The store is immaculate, shiny bright, very well lighted, laid out attractively and with spacious aisles. The staff is friendly, grateful for community support, and very helpful. There is free off-street parking and handicapped access; space is adequate but somewhat limited.
The Oliver Gospel Mission is located at 1100 Taylor Street and is well known to many people in Columbia and provides hot meals and housing for the homeless men and women in our city. They are aided in their efforts by several mission partners, including De Loache Flowers and Romano’s Macaroni Grill.
Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store has racks of children’s clothing and toys, women’s tanks, tops, tees, embellished, beaded and dressy tops, crossover tops, print, plaids, patterns and ruffles. There are also slacks, suits, sweaters, blazers and jackets,, jeans, skirts, dresses, dressy dresses, shoes, hats, handbags and accessories. Everything is in good to new condition and the price range for tops is from about $,99 to $4.99. There is a marvelous selection of shoes, including a few new, trendy styles from Yellow Box and Madden Girl.
There is a section for men with tees, shirts, suit separates, jackets, jeans, men’s accessories, and more. The gleaming jewelry counter has necklaces, chic multi-bracelets, French hook earrings, a few watches, and a confection of pastel millinery and church hats.
The thrifty fashion find this weekend was a fully lined navy blue gabardine suit skirt by Fabiano priced at $2.99, a perfect match a navy suit jacket for fall. The next find was s a gorgeous deep burgundy dress by Marie St. Claire with diagonal velvet across the chest and one sleeve done in velvet. It’s trendy, different, a great fall color, and sure to make a positive fashion statement for only $4.99.
Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store is surely worth adding to our favorite “fishing holes.” It also feels good to know that every piece of clothing we select and every pair of shoes we bring home helps Columbia’s homeless by providing meals and temporary shelter. Happy thrifty fashion shopping~
