As the alternative media and intenet blog revolution has helped create different ways for the American people to get news that isn’t found from traditional sources, establishment entities are now seeking ways to counter these news sources. As of September 25th, the blogosphere can now add the Federal Reserve to the mix of agencies seeking to scour the internet to find any and all reporting on its organization, and address it accordingly. In a new Request for Proposal by the New York Fed Bank, the agency is applying for programs or programmers who can create a system that captures all articles, blogs, and information on the internet regarding the Federal Reserve, analyze it, and create programs to counter negative reporting.
The Federal Reserve wants to know what you are saying about it. In fact, the Federal Reserve has announced plans to identify “key bloggers” and to monitor “billions of conversations” about the Fed on Facebook, Twitter, forums and blogs. This is yet another sign that the alternative media is having a dramatic impact. As first reported on Zero Hedge, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has issued a “Request for Proposal” to suppliers who may be interested in participating in the development of a “Sentiment Analysis And Social Media Monitoring Solution”. In other words, the Federal Reserve wants to develop a highly sophisticated system that will gather everything that you and I say about the Federal Reserve on the Internet and that will analyze what our feelings about the Fed are. – The Economic Collapse
The Federal Reserve is not the only private or government agency seeking to collect information written on, or spoken about their organizations. The Obama administration has recently created a mass counter-intel program called Attack Watch, by which citizens can send links, tweets, or other cyber speech modes that say negative things about the President, his administration, or government policies.
Both of these programs spark thoughts on George Orwell’s 1984, and Big Brother systems that monitor what you say, do, or watch, and the provide means to counter what are considered incorrect statement or actions according to the state. It is no longer applicable to simply refute speech in both oral and written forms for accuracy, or go as far as to bring libelous lawsuits against efforts that cause personal damage, but now the playing field has expanded to include the use of government agencies, and social media processes to focus on anything negative, whether true or not.
Over the past decade, the trust and belief in the Federal Reserve to manage our monetary system in the United States has waned considerably, and actions are growing both in Congress, and with the American people to disband, or counter the Fed’s power. As the internet and blogosphere has grown, so too has the information on government and banking institutions become available to the public that were rarely reported on in the past. The reactions by the NY Fed to commission a system that seeks to compile anything and everything said about it on the internet, coupled with President Obama’s new Attack Watch website and program, speaks greatly on the power and effects that internet journalism, and alternative media is having on the power structures in America.
