The sunshine and cool down expected here in the Baltimore area gives us a chance to step out and enjoy nature! As you do so, take note of how often nature reminds you of the Divine Being. It may be a good gauge of your spiritual awareness.
Often people will say, “I don’t need to go to church. I can pray anywhere, in the woods, outside my home, or driving along the road.” The question is, do you? Do you take an hour out of your day once a week to actively and deliberately thing about God? Do you have a routine of spirituality that brings to back to center and helps you focus on the intangible things of life? Do you really use nature, the drive, or the yard to recollect yourself and think of higher things?
That is why a walk though nature can be your guage. If the beauty found in this season brings no more to your mind than colored leaves and wonderful cool air, you may need to re-think your spiritual health.
On the other hand, if every where you look, you think of the glory and beauty of God; if wonderful sights and sound bring a quick, “Thank you God” to you lips; if praise comes naturally when good things happen, chances are, you are very spiritually in tune with Divinity.
The hope is not to become nerotic about spirituality, but to let it become as natural to us as the wind, trees, and air. This is true religion, when thinking of God doens’t happen just in church, or in front of a pastor or rabbi. It happens because we are aware of the Divinity we posses, that flows through nature, that surrounds us.
