Celebrate the last official weekend of summer with a patio wine on a patio. Here are five great patios that will be good places to perch, peruse the wine list, and people-watch over the holiday weekend:
Encore on Colfax in Denver has created a patio oasis in the city. Located in the Lowenstein CulturePlex, home to the Tattered Cover, Denver Film Center, Twist & Shout, and the Denver Art Gallery, Encore is a breezy place for great wine and food. General manager Aileen Reilly has assembled a wine list of mostly American wines, including selections from Colorado wineries. Fourteen are available by the half-glass, glass, and bottle. Executive chef and owner Paul C Reilly and his team create imaginative plates that pair well with the wine. Happy Hour is Monday-Saturday from 4:00-6:00pm and 10:00pm-close on Friday and Saturday. Happy Hour wines from Portugal, Washington State, and Spain cost $6.00/glass. Encore is located at 2550 East Colfax, between Elizabeth and Columbine streets. This weekend Encore will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but will be closed on Labor Day.
Indulge Wine Bar in Highlands Ranch has excellent views of the Front Range from its patio. Indulge has monthly patio parties with live music and free samples of wine and spirits. Happy Hour is 3:00-6:00pm nightly. Specials include $4 glasses of a changing list of wines and $8 glasses of high-end wines. Indulge’s flights offer three 3-ounce pours, which is 1/2 their normal pour of 6 ounces. They offer seven wine flights including a port flight. They pour more than 30 wines by the glass, 100 by the bottle, as well as seasonal martinis, cocktails, and 12 bottled beers. Small and large plates, cheeses, salads, flatbread pizzas, and desserts pair with the wine. Indulge is located near C-470 in the Highlands Ranch Town Center at 1601 Mayberry Drive, at the corner of Lucent Boulevard and Highlands Ranch Parkway.
The Lobby American Grille in Downtown Denver has a largely covered patio that lets the breezes in while keeping the sun away – perfect for the record-setting heat of August. They pour 13 wines by the bottle and glass with an additional 10, including white sangria, during Happy Hour, which is daily from 4:00-6:30pm. They offer weekly featured wines, a large selection of beer, and cocktails. They host wine dinners on the third Tuesday of most months, as well as a monthly Featured Artist Happy Hour, where wine tasters can meet the featured artist whose work will be on display in the restaurant that month. The Lobby is located at 2191 Arapahoe Street between 21st and 22nd streets. The Lobby and its patio will be open on Labor Day.
Vita Restaurant in the Lower Highlands has one of the best views of Downtown Denver from its Rooftop Terrace. Some of their patio wines include an El Coto Rosado Rioja, “Grooner” Gruner Veltliner, St. Francis Chardonnay, and NV Lambert Prosecco, all priced from $8.00-12.00/glass. They serve a selection of flatbread and “7-hour pork,” cherry and habanero braised pork with house-fried chips. Happy Hour is from 3:00-6:30pm daily, when they offer a 2-for-1 wines by the glass promotion – your fellow wine-lover drinks free if you’re the one with expensive tastes. Vita Restaurant is located at 1575 Boulder Street, near 15th Street.
Ya Ya’s EuroBistro in the Denver Tech Center is offering Labor Day Weekend specials, including more than half off bottles of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, O’Shaughnessy Cabernet Sauvignon, and Billiot Millésimé champagne. Happy Hour on the patio and in the bar is from 4:00-6:30pm daily and all night Sunday. They offer 12 select wines for $6.00/glass and $20.00/bottle, and the same number of featured bottles priced as listed, as well as 300 other wines by the bottle. Sit under a yellow umbrella and gaze at the fountain while enjoying a summer’s night. Ya Ya’s is located at 8310 East Belleview Avenue, between Ulster Street and DTC Boulevard. Ya Ya’s will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but will be closed on Labor Day for a staff appreciation party.
Have a great Labor Day weekend on the patio!
