Although we have had a warm fall so far, it is officially time to say goodbye to the heat; the leaves are changing, as is the weather, and there is a brisk chill to the air. This means we need to find something a bit warmer for our feet, and what better way to keep those toes toasty on a brisk autumn day than with a pair of cute flats. Casual or dressy, wild or reserved, here are some great shoe options for the fall season!
Yes, they were created to be worn while sailing but, with their sporty look and casual attitude, the boat shoe has become very fashionable. Great for BBQ-ing on a cool night or for an evening stroll down Main Street, it proves that it’s a shoe that does not necessarily have to be worn on the water. Not to mention, their increasing popularity has evolved into a great range of available styles. Sperry Top-Sider offers their Angelfish slip-on in a variety of colors, ranging from the basic Linen Oat to the cool Linen/Leopard Pony; and Tommy Bahama’s ‘First Mate Nunuck’ is a laceless version that is classy yet comfortable. Check out Craft Shoes, on Jericho Turnpike in Commack, for some great Sperry Top-Sider shoes.
Dress up a skirt or skinnies
Wearing a skirt or nice slacks and you just aren’t in the mood to wear pumps? If so, flats are the perfect option for your feet; after all, dressy doesn’t always mean wearing high heels. The logo embellishment on the Tory Burch Reva flat offers a sophisticated look that will easily enhance and beautify a simple pant outfit; just as the Steve Madden rhinestone flat will spice up any skirt or fall dress. A simple bow, as seen on Etienne Aigner’s Wilkinns flat, adds a nice touch to any outfit as well. Also dress up jeans with flats. Fall is the perfect season for skinny jeans, a sweater or henley, and a nice scarf; and what better to compliment this comfy, cozy outfit than a pair of cool flats like Coach’s Delia flat or J Crew’s Cece tweed flats.
Moccasins vs Oxfords
The epitome of casual versus preppy, moccasins and oxfords both bring some cool to the table. Minnetonka makes an array of wonderful moccasins and moccasin-like flats. Moccasins like the Studded Moc are uber comfy and super cute, while their double fringe shoe offers a nice alternative to the boring old “keep your feet warm” boot. Also check out Quoddy’s shearling-lined ring boots for a different option to carry into the winter. Looking for something a little more formal? Check out DSW for some great oxford options, like the Me Too Demand Oxford. Or check out a shoe like BC Footwear’s Foil Oxford that will add a little lift to your step.
With winter just around the corner, we can expect some cold and rainy (or snowy!) days, so make sure your feet are prepared to stay nice and toasty. And remember to buy some shoes that are comfortable and that you will get good wear out of… after all, we have months of cold weather ahead of us!
