Want to get a flawless celebrity look? It’s easier than you think. Learn to dress for your body type. Then, incorporate some of the hottest fashion trends and you’ll have that celebrity look in no time! There are both vertical and horizontal body types. The three vertical body types include: short legs/long torso, long legs/short torso and balanced vertical. The five horizontal body types are: pear (triangle), reversed pear (reverse triangle) apple, hourglass and ruler (rectangle).
Vertical Body Types
- Short Legs/Long Torso
Rachel Bilson is the short legs/long torso body type. Draw attention upward by pairing a light bottom with a darker top. Wear the same color top and bottom as another option; this will make your legs appear longer. Add a pair of heels for height; then you’ve got the infamous Rachel Bilson look from the Hart of Dixie Trailer.
- Long Legs/Short Torso
Low rise jeans are great to elongate the torso and draw attention downward. Add in a pair of low heels and you’ve got a great body balancing outfit. Cameron Diaz is lovely in her Paige Premium Low-rise Jeans.
- Balanced Vertical
First decide whether to make your torso longer or your legs longer. After that’s decided, then the fun begins. You can use tips from either the short legs/long torso body type or long legs/short torso body type.
Horizontal Body Types
Beyoncé is the queen of the pear shape and she’s not letting her pregnancy stop her sense of fashion. Check her out at Fashion Week 2011. Pear shaped body types are characterized by wider hips, thighs and bottoms. The upper body, including the bust and shoulders, are smaller and narrower. Three quarter shirts with boot cut, straight leg or hipster jeans compliment the pear body style. Add a wide belt around the waist to draw attention upward.
- Reversed Pear
Reversed pear shape girls have a bigger chest, broader shoulders and smaller hips. Longer length shirts with low- rise jeans and pants work great for pears by adding length to the torso. See Jessica Simpson in William Rast Jeans to compliment her reversed pear body type.
Hourglass shape is the most sought after body type, even though it is the most rare body type. Only about 8% of females have this body type. So don’t worry if you don’t fit in this category. The hourglass body type includes a bust and hips that are nearly the same size, a well defined waist, a full bust and shapely legs. Dresses are a staple for hourglass girls. V-neck shirts and stretch denim jeans are great for dressing down. Kim Kardashian shows her elegant hourglass shape in her 3 Vera Wang Wedding Dresses.
Large bust, broad shoulders, a less defined waist and narrower hips are all characteristics of the apple body type. Shorter skirts and dresses that put emphasis on the legs make the apples one of the most desirable fruits. Both dark wrap around shirts and low-rise jeans are great wardrobe options for the apple shape. Take a look at Britney Spears embracing the short dress style on October’s cover of Glamour UK Magazine.
Ruler shaped girls’ trademarks are a small bust, small hips and an undefined waist. High neck and sleeveless tops are great for the ruler body type. When it comes to jeans, skinny jeans are the ruler girl’s best friend. But, the ruler girls really look great in all styles of jeans. Ruler-shaped Miley Cyrus looks chic on the red carpet at the 2011 VMA Awards.
Celebrity style is only a fashion rule away. Remember we come in all shapes and sizes. So, learn your body type, embrace it, and dress for it!
