“ You want to hear my theory on why the world is so obsessed with Mayweather Pacquiao fight, aside from them being two best boxers in the world ?” inquired Big Steve during our lunch at Porto’s Bakery on Brand Boulevard:” Because this is a classic battle between good and evil, a true yin and yang. And for once, a little kid inside of each and every one of us has a real hope for a fairy tale ending where good defeats evil. And so we keep hoping and waiting.”
As they have defeated their respective opponents both fighters and got larger in stature both super stars claim that they don’t need each other, but yet it always comes back around their eventual meeting in the ring. They are contrary forces that are intertwined somehow, yin and yang.
So what about this mega fight?
“We’ve been talking about this for the longest,” said Mayweather at the post Ortiz press conference:” Pacquiao has a boss. Before he worries about fighting Floyd Mayweather he has to get his business in order.”
Never at a loss for words Floyd never misses an opportunity to verbally assault his rival Manny Pacquiao.“With or without Pacquiao,” continued Mayweather:” Every time Floyd Mayweather goes out there, he is going to make over seventy million dollars period. I don’t need him.”
Manny Pacquiao said the same thing addressing the media.” I don’t need him,” said Pacquiao in an interview on ESPN:” He (Mayweather) needs me. Compare my achievements in boxing to his achievements.”
And so the verbal ping pong keeps going.
“If you got nothing to hide, take the test,” exclaims Mayweather who is being sued by Pacquiao in Federal court for defamation of character:” I just want to even up the playing field. All Pacquiao is doing is fighting my left over’s.”
As time goes bye, actions of Floyd Mayweather Jr seem more and more evil. From assaulting the mother of his children to disrespecting his father, to burning money on television to getting in an altercation with a security guard at his gated community house development to parking at two handicapped parking spots illegally; there is just no telling what Floyd would do next. What he did was legally sucker punched unsuspecting Victor Ortiz twice to end the fight. No one even balked. When you are in the ring with Floyd expect anything; if you are playing with fire expect to get burned.
But would Manny Pacquiao do the same thing with Victor Ortiz? No. Pacquiao kept looking at the referee, motioning for him to stop the fight when he was busting up Antonio Margarito last year. He did not want to cause any unnecessary damage. As time goes bye, the good deeds and generosity of Manny Pacquiao transcend the sport. Child like looking national hero with an infectious smile has been known to literally take a shirt off his back to help a man in need. From adapting boxers down on their luck to feeding the homeless to building a hospital in the Philippines to creating jobs, Manny Pacquiao uses his fame inside the squared circle to help his fellow men. There are talks about him becoming a president of Philippines one day.
Westerners simplified yin and yang theory as good and bad, but Chinese philosophers contend that” yin and yang are not opposing forces, but complimentary opposites that interact within a greater whole. Everything has both yin and yang as light can not exist without darkness and vice-versa.”
So if we subscribe to eastern philosophy, then all we have to do is sit down, light up a pipe and wait. Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, just like a magnet and metal, are bound to one day collide in the ring.
