Former “X Factor” judge Cheryl Cole has once again ended her relationship with soccer player Ashley Cole, amid reports that he was unfaithful to her. Cheryl and Ashley married in 2006, divorced in 2010, and reunited (but did not remarry) in 2011. They went public with their reunion at her 28th birthday party on July 1, 2011.
The couple’s bitter divorce was played out in the British tabloids, which regularly reported that Ashley’s infidelity was the main reason for the breakup. Some of Ashley’s alleged mistresses did tabloid interviews giving details of their trysts with him.
After her marriage ended, Cheryl was romantically linked to “Dancing With the Stars” dancer Derek Hough, but they never publicly confirmed that they were a couple. (But there were several paparazzi photos of the two acting like a couple.)
In the spring of 2011, reports began to surface that Cheryl had ended her relationship with Hough, and she and Ashley were secretly dating again. After Ashley and Cheryl went public with their reunion, there were reports that they had moved back in together.
But the reunion has crashed and burned, and Cheryl reportedly ended the relationship by texting Ashley a break-up message. According to Now magazine, Cheryl’s farewell text to Ashley was the catch phrase from “The Weakest Link” game show: “You are the weakest link. Goodbye.”
An unnamed source told Now: “She was laughing as she told us about the text. Cheryl’s had enough. She’ll always love Ashley, but they tried to give things another go and they couldn’t make it work. This was her way of saying she’s done.”
It’s been a roller-coaster year for Cheryl. She quit the judging panel on “The X Factor” U.K. to be a judge on “The X Factor” U.S., but she was fired from the U.S. show after just a few weeks on the job. (Cheryl was replaced by Tulisa Contostavlos of N-Dubz on “The X Factor” U.K., and Cheryl was replaced by former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger on “The X Factor” U.S.)
Cheryl went into seclusion for more than a month after the firing, but she came out of seclusion in a big way at her star-studded 28th birthday party in London on July 1.
Cheryl has been splitting her time between her homes in England and Los Angeles. She is reportedly set to reunite with her group Girls Aloud in 2012, but the future of the reunion is uncertain, as Girls Aloud member Sarah Harding checked into rehab for alcoholism and depression in October 2011.
After parting ways with “The X Factor,” Cheryl filmed a cameo as a talent-show judge in the 2012 comedy film “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez. Cheryl is also launching a line of shoes with Stylistpick.com. The shoes are set to go on sale in December 2011.
Cheryl’s most recent solo album is 2010’s “Messy Little Raindrops.” It is unknown when her next solo album will be released, especially if the Girls Aloud reunion goes ahead as planned.
Girls Aloud member Kimberley Walsh (who is Cheryl’s closest friend in the group) said in an October 26, 2011 interview on “The Alan Titchmarsh Show” that the Girls Aloud reunion is definitely on for 2012: “We are definitely talking about plans for next year because it’s our 10-year anniversary so we don’t know exactly what it’s going to be. I can’t give too much information but we’ll definitely be doing something together again which will be lovely.”
Girls Aloud’s most recent album is 2008’s “Out of Control.” The group has been on a hiatus since 2009.
