In what could be some of the most exciting news in Alabama craft beer culture during 2011, it has been confirmed that Founders Brewing Company (Grand Rapids, MI) will begin distributing in the state at a yet to be determined date in November of this year. To celebrate this occasion, The J. Clyde (1312 Cobb Lane, Birmingham) will be hosting a special welcome party and keg tapping on Wednesday, October 26th at 5 pm.
Founders Brewing Company is probably one of the most respected and recognizable names in craft breweries today in the U.S. To give you an idea of just how respected this brewery is, here is a blurb from their website:
“We at Founders Brewing Company have been lucky to evolve into one of the highest recognized breweries in the United States. In 2011, Ratebeer.com ranked us as the 2nd best brewery in the world (up from 4th best in 2010), and we have several beers listed in the top one hundred beers of the world on Beeradvocate.com. We were the second fastest growing brewery in the U.S. in 2009, the winner of four medals at the 2010 World Beer Cup, and the winner of two medals at the 2010 Great American Beer Festival.”
Whether it be a year around like their Porter, seasonals like their Double Trouble Imperial IPA, or specialty releases like their KBS Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout, Founders makes quality beers in all aspects of their portfolio. Their beers are consistently considered some of the best being made and distributed in the country, and it is truly amazing to finally be able to enjoy them in Alabama.
In celebration of this triumph for the craft beer community in Alabama, The J. Clyde will host the Grand Finale of a trio of welcome parties that have been held over the last couple weeks for Founders. Each party has featured a special tapping (On Tap poured their Devil Dancer Triple IPA and The Nook in Huntsville poured their Cashew Mountain Brown Ale), and The J. Clyde has probably the most special treat in store. I cannot give away exactly what the keg will be, but I can give you the riddle clue that The J. Clyde and Birmingham Beverage released:
“Here’s to the morning of coffee and oatmeal
I will tell you a secret if you promise not to squeal
95 of me were filled and one was set aside
This will be a tapping for the ages that we will share at the Clyde
Wednesday is set for this special event
It is certainly bitter sweet the this last clue is sent!”
If you cannot figure it out from there, I can tell you that this is an incredibly limited beer that craft beer lovers all over the country recently scrambled for just to get a bottle or taste. It has been Founders most eagerly awaited release of the year, and we are very lucky to see a keg of it show up at The J. Clyde. The 1/6 barrel of Cashew Mountain tapped at The Nook was gone in less than an hour, so you may want to get to The J. Clyde a little earlier than 5 pm to ensure you get a glass of this Founders mystery beer tomorrow (October 26th).
If you are free tomorrow, you really should roll over The J. Clyde a glass of a rare treat and to savor the great news that Founders Brewing Company is finally in Alabama. Prost!
