Over the years Fox News has successfully managed to paint progressive as extreme by sending their reporters out into the fray in order to find the most radical, unintelligent, or violent protester among thousands. Upon showing the video footage of said protester, the network then commences to paint the entire progressive movement with a broad stroke using the “golden nugget” interview they found. However, a Fox News reporter evidently picked the wrong Occupy Wall Street protester to try and ambush last week. In the interview to the left the reporter, who is unidentified, gets embarrassed by a protester when he demonstrates some real knowledge and an ability to communicate. What unfolds is a must watch scene that can be seen to the left.
The interview, which curiously never aired of Fox News, has subsequently been published by The New York Observer. It features a Fox News reporter asks protester Jess LeGreca how he hopes the protests will end after already stating that LeGraca wants to “incite tension” and more police activity through the demonstrations. Last weekend over 700 protesters were arrested while peacefully demonstrating in New York City.
LeGreca says that it is difficult to answer the question since the reporter has already made so many conclusions within the answer. Legrega then refutes many of the reporters points, saying the movement did not “take its cue” from anyone, but was rather more of spontaneous demonstration. LeGreca also says that he hopes the movement does not end, but instead generates a new conversation about how to fix the economy.
LeGraca then goes on the offensive, calling Fox News a “propaganda machine.” As an example, LeGraca brings up the ongoing investigation of News Corp, the parent corporation of Fox News, which has hardly been covered at all by the “fair and balanced” network.
The reporter begins to retreat at this point, trying to say that LeGreca should be thankful that Fox News is even covering the protests at all. LeGraca counters by saying Fox News does not allow for an honest conversation through the coverage because they accuse protesters of engaging in “class warfare.”
Finally, seeking desperately to get something out of the interview, the Fox News reporter asks LeGreca to criticize President Obama. LeGreca concedes that he would like to see the President do more for economic justice, but says Fox News does not help matter by focusing on silly stories like birth certificates and Solyndra.
