On November 11th at 7 pm, Free the Hops will hold its first Fall FestivALE at Old Car Heaven (115 35th Street South, Birmingham).
The Fall FestivALE will act to fill the beer festival void that Birmingham beer lovers faced when we only had the Magic City Brewfest. With that said, this event will not be the same, unlimited samples format as Magic City Brewfest. The Fall FestivALE will feature seasonals, rare beers, and even a few beers that will be brewed specifically for this event. Due to the rarity and limited availability of these beers, price of admission will get you a souvenir tasting glass and six 4oz samples. Each additional sample will cost $1.00. This format was recently used at the Southern HOPSpitality beer festival in Huntsville, and it worked incredibly well. Ticket prices are $25 in advance and $35 at the door the day of the event. You can purchase tickets by clicking here.
If you will not have time to grab some food before the festival, worry not because The J. Clyde will have you covered. The J. Clyde will be on hand for the Fall FestivALE and you will be able to buy some of their great food by the plate to satisfy any beer munchies you may encounter.
Now I believe we should cover what will be in your glass for this event. The following breweries will be attending the Fall FestivALE (this list is sure to grow as the event gets closer):
- Avondale Brewing Company (Birmingham)
- Back Forty Brewing Company (Gadsden)
- Blue Pants Brewery (Huntsville)
- Good People Brewing Company (Birmingham)
- Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company (Kiln, MS)
- Straight to Ale (Huntsville)
- SweetWater Brewing Company (Atlanta, GA)
- Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA)
- Thomas Creek Brewery (Greenville, SC)
- Yazoo Brewing Company (Nashville, TN)
- Yellowhammer Brewing (Huntsville)
You can expect to see limited beers like Back Forty’s Kudzu Porter, SweetWater’s Ghoulash, Thomas Creek’s Dirty Monk Belgian Porter, and Yellowhammer’s Brown Bomber. In addition to these and other great beers, this event has two other surprises. First, this will be the first time Founders Brewing Company (Grand Rapids, MI), one of the country’s best breweries, will be poured at a Free the Hops event. Second, American brewing heavyweight Adam Avery from Avery Brewing Company (Boulder, CO) will also be in attendance to discuss his brewery, and will probably be pouring a few surprises of his own.
If you do not have plans for November 11th, you should make some and arrange tickets to the Fall FestivALE. You will get the chance to try some amazing beers you may never see again, enjoy some great food, and meet some awesome people. I assure you this will be a beer event you will want to be at. Prost!
