Freedom Guide Dogs “Open Kennel’ on Saturday was a great success. Beautiful fall weather encouraged many people to drive down to Cassville to check out the kennel, the dogs and the program.
Guide dog puppies in training came with their puppy raisers to charm everyone. Dogs in serious training were also present as were successful graduates with their human partners. Visitors came from as far away as Connecticut! Many people had the opportunity to go through a guide dog obstacle course with an apprentice trainer. Of course, they had to wear a blindfold to get the full experience!
“It’s a great opportunity for people to get to know us,” said Nicole White, Director of Development. “We are just so pleased with all the support from friends, new and old!” While Open Kennel is only held once a year, you can arrange for a tour all year round. Free tours of the facility are offered anytime between 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Just call (315) 822-5132 for more information or visit www.freedomguidedogs.org
If you feel inspired by the website, consider becoming a puppy raiser or get a group together and join the “365 Club” by sponsoring a dog for as little as $1 a day. It makes much more sense to spend your charity dollars for local non profits such as Freedom Guide Dogs or Humane Society of Rome than for a big national charity where much of the money will go to administration and lobbying costs.
