I was booked for an 80 minute massage at the Spa at the Los Angeles Ritz Carlton at Nokia Live! Little did I know what treats were in store for this inveterate pamper seeker. It’s easy to guess how good it will be when you arrive and are greeted by friendly faces behind the desk of the understated, but lavish lobby.
After leading me to a locker, stocked with a terry robe and slippers, and providing a quick tour (steam, sauna, waiting area filled with beverages, snacks and impossibly comfortable chaises and adornments), I was left to my own devices. Which was, as usual, a steam bath.
Of all the spas in the world I’ve visited, none have ever offered a steam room like this with two, stone tiled contoured lounges set side by side providing penultimate comfort. Everybody may not agree, but for me, a good steam room is the definitive reward after a good workout session, hard day at the office (or computer) or just when we need to unwind. And this facility takes top prize.
My next big delight was Jennifer, a massage therapist with an amazingly skillful technique could tame Rambo and take the aches and stress out of the any A-type personality. Slow, steady, studied movements from my neck, around the back, along the legs, feet, scalp left me limp and as peaceful as a dove.
It was all good. When I left I picked up a little gift for myself, a Champagne and Shimmer Bath Ice Cream effervescent bath soak bar, created exclusively for this spa. It smelled so lovely I actually bought a few for some friends (big spender at $9 each). That night I filled the gorgeous soaking tub in the bathroom of my suite at the Ritz Carlton and added the bar—ooh la la, it made some magical moments.
