Spc. Garrett A. Fant, 21, of American Canyon, California, died Sept. 26, 2011, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
Spc. Fant and his team were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom at the time of the attack. It is not known how many other soldiers were injured in this incident.
Spc. Fant was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
