DANVILLE, IN (September 20, 2011) – Anyone looking for a fun fall activity during the Oct. 1 weekend will have plenty to choose from in Hendricks County.
As the Hendricks County Convention and Visitors Bureau fully implements its Fall Festival 5 Gallon Trip campaign to encourage visitors to Hendricks County primarily through its Facebook social media site and gas card giveaways, virtually every community will support that initiative with a fall event or attraction.
“We are thrilled to see so many quality events during this campaign but especially during this first weekend in October,” said Jaime Bohler Smith, associate director for the HCCVB. “Events like these truly showcase Hendricks County as a destination where people can come for an afternoon or weekend visit. This is also a great opportunity for our residents to experience numerous events that add to our quality of life here.”
Some of those featured events include:
Plainfield Quaker Days − Festivities begin Sept. 30 with a carnival, booths and entertainment. The annual Quaker Day Parade, organized by the Plainfield Kiwanis Club, begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 1 at the Plainfield Community Middle School, 709 Stafford Road. The Plainfield Friends Church, 105 S. East St., will then host craft booths, a food tent and entertainment from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Grape Harvest Wine, Art and Music Festival – A full day of activities from 2 to 10 p.m. Oct. 1 at Chateau Thomas Winery, 6291 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, includes wine tasting, winery tours, wine & cheese paring classes, component tasting classes, art vendors, food vendors and three bands. Cost is $10 a person.
Heartland Apple Festival and Corn Maze – This family-friendly event held over two weekends − Oct. 1-2 and Oct. 8-9 – at Beasley’s Orchard, 2304 E. Main St., Danville, features hayrides to the pumpkin patch, a 6-acre corn maze, live entertainment, art and crafts, plenty of food, caramel apples and fresh apple cider. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Run Greater Indianapolis Half Marathon & Fitness Festival – This inaugural event will begin with a free health & fitness expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1 that is open to the public at the Hendricks County Courthouse, 355 S. Washington St., Danville. The running races begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday from the courthouse square and include a half marathon, 5K run and one-mile Kids’ Fun Run.
Scarecrow Festival − Stroll through the giant scarecrow displays and vote for your favorite from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 1 on the Hendricks County Courthouse Square, 355 S. Washington St., Danville. The event also includes free entertainment, games, crafts and a costume contest for the kids.
