Plan to have some fun and help the horses at Hope In The Valley Equine Rescue and Sanctuary at For the Life of a Horse funraiser at Mattox Arena, 4418 E 83rd St S., in Derby, KS on Oct. 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Hope in the Valley cares for 39 horses, many of which have been abused or neglected, to provide them a place of safety and care until they are adopted. The rescue also works with people in the area who may need to surrender their horses due to various circumstances including poor health.
“We often work closely with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Dept. whether to assist an owner in proper care for their horse or if the horses need to be removed for their safety,” said Ande Miller, founder and director of Hope in the Valley. “These horses come to us through no fault of their own, they just need someone to properly care for them and understand them.”
A special fund raiser hosted by Blonde and Beyond and Mattox Arena will assist Hope In The Valley feed and care for the horses. For the Life of a Horse will feature fun games, exhibitions of bull riding, team roping and barrel racing (weather permitting) and live music by Hammer Down, Jackson Taylor and the Sinners and Patrick Lomantini. Guests can enjoy a beer garden, Cow Patty Bingo and bid on silent auction items.
“With the much smaller hay harvest this year, the cost of hay has doubled to get through the winter,” Miller said. “For the Life of a Horse will be important towards helping to defray this cost.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and events will begin at 7 p.m. A $15 cover charge covers the entire evening. For more information, call Christa at 316-393-2077 or Chasity at 316-650-4807, or visit the Hope In the Valley web site. If you’d like to pay your cover charge in advance, you can go to the web site, click Pay in Advance, and note “Concert.” Advance payments need to be made by Midnight Wednesday, Oct. 26 and your name will be on a list at the door. Since there is a fee for PayPal, if you add in an extra dollar or two, then that helps Hope In the Valley cover the fee.
Silent auction items are still welcome. To donate an item, contact Chasity at 316-650-4807 or [email protected] She will even arrange for pick up if needed. Volunteers are still needed for Friday for set up and during the event and on Saturday for clean up and take down.
