Hello and welcome to another round of Gamer Spotlight! It’s been a while since the last one, but this time around, we have two gamers to hear from. Creators and administrators of EmptyApartment.net, Mr. Creeper and Empty Apartment!
Thanks for taking the time to join me for Gamer Spotlight! What are your names and aliases?
Mr. Creeper (MC): I’m JM and use the alias ‘Mr. Creeper’ for most of my online interactions.
Empty Apartment (EA): Kenny here, alias Empty Apartment.
So, you two run EmptyApartment.net. What can you tell me about the site?
MC: We started the site about a month ago. We got together and decided we wanted to do something more with our gaming hobby. As with a lot of other gamers, doing a website was the first thing that came to mind.
Are there any specific goals for the site?
EA: Have fun… :)
MC: It, in all honesty, was something we started to just do for fun.
EA: I’m surprised it has lasted this long, honestly. BUT. Once the Dark Souls live stream started taking off, I kinda realized how fun this whole thing could be.
MC: It’s gotten quite a bit more attention than we originally expected, so it’s keeping us on our toes and looking for ways to add more to the site and continually improve.
How’s the community treating you guys so far?
EA: That’s been by far the best part.
MC: Awesome! I was waiting for the usual troll trash to roll through, but everyone so far, with the exception of Dame, has been great to us.
EA: Yeah, I really had no idea people would actually be interested in watching me stream.
MC: As you can tell, we like getting to know the viewers that visit our live stream and it’s crazy for us to be talking to people, not only from around the US, but also England, Australia, and Japan.
EA: I almost did not do the stream, but I’m really glad I did.
What are some games you are currently playing, whether it be on your stream or in your free time?
EA: First of all, Dark Souls and then more Dark Souls.
MC: Well, I’m of course, rocking Dark Souls; however frustrating it may be. Also, I’m still playing some Gears and waiting for MW3 and Skyrim to hit.
EA: Besides that, I’ve been playing League of Legends for a long time now and continue to play matches of that when I can. Also just finished up Arkham City.
MC: Empty has a lot more free time than me…
How long have you guys been playing games for?
MC: I’m scared of how old I am now…
Stick and hoop then, Creeper?
MC: Ha. Ha. I can remember playing the NES growing up, but before that my pops said I would play the Atari with him. Gaming runs in the family.
EA: I blame my pop, he feed my love for games.
EA: Best gaming memory I have… My pop waking up and calling in sick for work, then letting me not go to school for the day, and me and him jumpin’ on the bus together and riding down to the local mall. We picked up a PS2 on launch day. Sadly, I also got SSX that day.
MC: SSX was a good game!
That’s awesome. Reminds me of when I called into school sick one day to get the 360 on launch day. I ended up in the newspaper and all my teachers found out anyway.
MC: Hazards of the hobby. Totally worth it.
Do you guys have a favorite gaming generation?
MC: Not really… There’s things I loved about each one. I think, because gaming has always been a part of my life, I equate memories of my life to different games and/or systems I was playing at the time.
EA: I want to say PS2, but I’ve been sucked in pretty hard to this generation, and it seems I play more games now than ever.
Do you have any favorite genres in particular?
MC: Deep down, I’m an RPG guy, but I play a lot of everything. Not particularly good at any one though… I think that’s what may help differentiate us from other streams, is that we’re not ‘PRO gamers’. You’ve seen Empty play. He get’s lost standing next to the Bonfire [in Dark Souls].
EA: I have a bad sense of direction… More games need Dead Space’s line thing… What’s that called again?
MC: Easy mode. There’s gonna be a similar ‘spell’ in Skyrim too. So, you’re in luck.
EA: I beat Dark Souls, so screw you, Creeper. When I was younger, I hated RPG’s and all that talking, but I love them now. I play pretty much everything. Racings, sports, shooters, etc.
Do you two have any favorite games?
MC: Wow…you weren’t kidding about the general questions.
The people want to know!
EA: So many…
MC: Alan Wake is one. It’s such a well scripted and interesting story. I’m a sucker for a good story.
EA: Super Mario Allstars
MC: Oh damn, Red Dead!!! That’s my personal pick for ‘Game of the Year’ last year.
EA: Deadly Premonition, Mass Effect 2
Well, Empty already answered this question… So, Creeper, what’s your best gaming memory?
MC: Starting this website.
EA: Oh, add “Streaming Dark Souls” to my answer.
MC: It’s something that’s really given me a new view of what I want to do. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and hope we can continue working on it for quite some time. Also, I can tell you my next favorite gaming memory will be when all our viewers pay for me to go to PAX next year. Real Talk.
Having for favorite memories lined up before they happen. That’s organization.
Going off topic for one last question, do you guys have any other hobbies or interests?
MC: There’s other hobbies besides gaming…?
EA: I play basketball here and there. Have always loved doing that too.
MC: I guess I like… I dunno…sleeping.
EA: Sleepings fun.
Thanks again for agreeing to being on Gamer Spotlight! Good luck with your site!
MC: … … … VISIT EMPTYAPARTMENT.NET!
EA: Thanks a ton to all the regular viewers who visit the stream. It has been a really great experience over the last month, and I can’t say how grateful I am that you guys-
MC: “I love you guys SO much.” —Empty
