Tired of constantly chainsawing players across the world in the same shopping center setting and/or old thrashball arena in “Gears of War 3” multiplayer? You won’t have to wait longer than a month to expand the multiplayer experience in the latest Gears title as “Horde Command Pack,” the first downloadable content (DLC) (other than weapon skins), will be available on November 1, for 800 MS points, or $10, and includes new maps, characters, weapon skins, and, most importantly, achievements for the game. Those who purchased the “Season Pass,” which discounts all DLC and is 2400 MS points, or $30, will receive it for 33% off.
There are three new maps, detailed below:
Blood Drive – The Jacinto Medical Plaza was overwhelmed by evacuated citizens after the government-sanctioned Hammer Strikes, and the ensuing riots quickly turned this safe haven into a dangerous inferno. An abundance of high ground and funneled choke points make this map a returning favorite to Horde.
Rustlung – Once the pride of the Royal Tyran Navy, the foredecks of this decommissioned battleship are now riddled with bullet holes. Any team with the fortitude to hold the exposed central torpedo bay will find that the ship’s Loader has been replaced with a battle-ready Silverback mech suit.
Azura – This island resort was once the exclusive domain of Sera’s educated elite, but the tranquil water gardens and lush foliage have become a hotly contested combat zone. Dual snipers overlook a powerful explosive weapon, while the defensive central platform may be your last resort of retreat.
Horde mode will get a boost with new fortifications. A brand new emplacement is the “Command Center,” which grants long-distance firepower like mortar and hammer of dawn strikes. Also, there are new upgrades for the sentry, decoy, and Silverback fortifications. Sentry upgrades add bolt fire, useful against Berserkers, which are the biggest annoyances in Horde and take a ton of firepower currently to destroy. Decoy upgrade allows access to an “Onyx Guard” bot that’ll do more than just look pretty like Cole Train cardboard stand-up. The Silverback upgrade adds rockets and reduces repair costs.
Finally new characters for multiplayer include Onyx Guard, alternate Dizzy form Big Rig Dizzy, and new female character Bernie. There are also two new weapon skins: “Team Plasma” and “Jungle Camo.”
