They say there is someone for everyone…and the same goes for animals. For all the dogs and cats sitting in shelters, or spending time in rescues, there is a human who would be the perfect “other half.” But, sometimes a dog or cat is perfect for everyone. That is the case with Sprout. This wonderful dog will melt anyone’s heart.
Given up by his owner who had to leave the country, Sprout has become more than just another anonymous shelter dog. He is approximately seven months old and came to the shelter in DC with a non-contagious form of mange for which he is being treated. His spirit shows in his energy and playfulness. When he is not charming people with his special hugs, he can be found tossing stuffed animals around for himself, although he would much rather play with other dogs. Sprout also loves to play any game humans will include him in.
Because Sprout has stood out among the crowd, he was invited to be part of two programs that allow him to interact with the public while giving him some time away from his shelter life. The first is the People & Animal Cardio Klub. Once per week he and other dogs go jogging with volunteers. The other is Dog Tags. This program brings together wounded soldiers and adoptable shelter dogs for fun with a purpose. No surprise, Sprout is a group favorite. You can also add “puppy socializer” as part of his duties as he supervises wild and fun play sessions.
Even though Sprout is seemingly living a decent life these days, it only takes a few seconds with him to see that he is desperately in need of a real home. It shows in his incredibly sweet demeanor, and his gentle but urgent gaze. And, as mentioned before, his amazing hugs (see slideshow). The perfect home would be very active and perhaps have another energetic dog as his companion. If there are kids he would be happy, and if there were toys he would be in heaven.
Perhaps someone will make his simple dream come true and be his other half. If that is you, please email email@example.com
