Fans have been curious to watch Brandon Hantz this season on Survivor: South Pacific . While his fellow castaways may have been kept in the dark at first, viewers know that Brandon is the nephew of legendary Survivor player Russell Hantz. Despite the last name, many think that Brandon will do well this season, and they are anxious to get to know a bit more about him.
Brandon is 19-years-old and works as an oil tankerman and he lives in Katy, TX. He has two tattoos that show “Hantz,” but early on in the game he kept them hidden. While he may be related to Russell, he says his game will be very different. He shares, “I’m a team player… I think I can be cocky, but I don’t want to be known as a disrespectful or arrogant person.”
Hantz admits that his family tends to be temperamental, and he knows he has to keep that side of him under control. As for his uncle, he says “I love my uncle and blood’s thicker than water. I don’t have anything negative to say about my uncle, but we’re two different people.” He adds, “I don’t want to be judged under his name. But I want people to see a different side of our family, and if that means I lose the game, then so be it.”
Hantz has been married for two years, he has one son named Elijah and has a daughter on the way. There are indications that Brandon was a very different person during his teen years, before he became a father. He says, “I stopped acting foolish when I had my little boy… It changes the way I think.” Hantz has grown up as someone comfortable in the outdoors, so he doesn’t think the Survivor: South Pacific setting will bother him. He lists “shooting my guns, hunting and eating crawfish” as his hobbies, so one would say he should be well-suited to the Survivor environment.
Brandon’s faith is very important to him, and he shares that it will affect how he plays the game. “I do have a standard and I won’t go beneath that standard… I’m not a bad person and I don’t want to come off as a bad person.” He adds, “I know it’s a game, but there is a point where there are some things that I just won’t do.” Survivor has a tendency to push many to do things they wouldn’t normally do, so it will be interesting to see how Brandon handles this.
