Wednesday night on The X Factor, viewers were surprised to see that fan favorite Chris Rene wasn’t the only one in his family to make it to Boot Camp. Chris’ sister Gina Rene was also there, and viewers were impressed. In fact, one of the most touching moments of Wednesday’s show (airing on Channel 10 in Scottsdale) was when Chris was watching to see if Gina was part of the other group that had made it to the next round on the show. Judge Paula Abdul was touched by Chris’ actions, and many fans at home were bawling watching these two connect. Now fans want to know more about both Chris Rene Gina Rene.
Chris Rene has a complicated backstory that has viewers rooting for him. He is a recovering drug addict and young father, and doing well at a show like The X Factor would certainly be life-changing. Via his fan site, Chris admits that he and his sister Gina have been estranged for some time, but both have aspired to succeed in the music industry for a while. Gina Rene has already had some musical success, having her original track “U Must Be” featured in the 2006 dance movie Step Up.
Chris Rene and his sister Gina Rene come from a musically talented family. On her My Space page, Gina shares that her grandfather Leon Rene wrote the Louis Armstrong song “Sleepy Time Down South” as well as the rock classic “Rockin’ Robin.” Her father was a songwriter as well, having written the song “Wham Bam” done by Johnny “Guitar” Watson and Earl Palmer. The Rene family is from Santa Cruz, California, though Gina has performed all over the world. The musical interest spreads to their brother Gabriel Rene, who is a producer and one of Gina’s frequent collaborators.
After she graduated high school, Gina became the lead singer of a band called Soulstice, and later she decided to branch out on her own. She moved on to Los Angeles, and her songs have been featured in Step Up as well as the Lindsay Lohan movie Mean Girls. Gina Rene was homeless at one time, and she says her struggles feed into her voice and perspective.
Chris Rene has had his own challenges in life, including having a son who is currently in foster care. While in his audition Chris talked about his young son who has inspired him to become a better man, there is a second son named Elijah who is 6-years old. Chris didn’t know about this son until the boy was 2-years-old, after Elijah’s birth mother let him go into foster care. Chris has made an effort to get to know this young boy, though Elijah wasn’t told Chris was his father until recently. Chris Rene has been an inspirational model to people of what changes people can make in their lives when they choose to dig in and turn the course they are on.
While viewers will have to wait and see if both Chris Rene and Gina Rene make it to the live shows, they have been amazing to watch so far. Tune into The X Factor Wednesday and Thursday nights on Fox, Channel 10 in the Scottsdale area. The show airs at 7 p.m.
