True Food Kitchen has been a staple in Fashion Island for awhile now, but if you haven’t had a chance to visit this restaurant yet, I highly recommend you go for breakfast or lunch or dinner or maybe even all three. It’s that good.
True Food Kitchen is an all-green, organic restaurant that uses simple organic ingredients in all of their dishes. Most items on the menu have anywhere from 3-7 ingredients TOTAL and complement each other quite nicely. The menu is inspired by Dr. Andrew Weil’s Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid (which you can see here), and proves once and for all that eating healthy does not mean sacrificing flavor. Plus, the menu is updated seasonally so you know you are always enjoying the freshest ingredients when you dine at the restaurant.
One of the things that is nice about True Food Kitchen was the bright and airy space. There’s an outdoor patio that is partially covered/uncovered, a large bar area, a private dining room, and plenty of seating within the restaurant.
True Food Kitchen has many standout dishes so it’s hard just to pick a few to write about. On the breakfast front, the Banana/Pistachio/Date muffin is loaded with flavor and the Greek Frittata with egg, feta cheese, oregano, and tomato is a perfect way to get your day started on the right foot.
The menu stays pretty similar when it comes to lunch and dinner. For appetizers, highlights are definitely the Hummus and Fresh Pita, as well as the Carmelized Onion Tart and the Tuscan Kale Salad (a personal favorite).
On the entree front, you can go with the Turkey Burger with provolone cheese and avocado and Sweet Potato Hash on the side, which is always a favorite, or try something a little more “unique” such as the Spaghetti Squash Casserole with mozzarella, tomato and zucchini, or the Panang Curry with vegetables, coconut broth and your meat of choice. For lighter fare, try the Summer Chopped Salad with walnuts, strawberries and goat cheese or the Chicken Sausage Pizza with tomato, fennel, and fontina cheese.
For dessert, try the Flourless Chocolate Cake or Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp (both come with ice cream) or for something different, try the Almond Olive Oil cake with blackberries and greek yogurt.
Overall True Food Kitchen is the perfect spot for when you are looking for something that is delicious and nutritious, and equally satisfying. Oh and it’s just minutes away from the beach – can’t beat that.
