Now that the Midwest is heading into the fall season, it is time to take getting fit seriously. This is a great time to start looking around at gyms. Not only should you look for a gym that is near you, you should look into its equipment, fitness classes, and personal training. You want to find a gym with great equipment that is in great shape. You also want to look for a gym that offers great fitness classes that will maximize your workout experience. Last but not least, you want to look for a gym with great personal training staff.
Why great personal training staff? Because personal trainers are a great resource for geting fit. Nikki Ringer, a personal trainer at Family Fun and Fitness, says that a personal trainer will benefit you the most because they are able to “show you new equipment and how to use it” which is very important. You don’t want to go into a gym (especially on a new membership) and use equipment the wrong way and hurt yourself. Nikki says she sees about 50% of members that do not have personal training using the equipment wrong on a daily basis. She says that when members are lifting weights on their own they may use too little weight or too much weight for their body type. They may also do the wrong amount of repetitions that is best for the goals they are trying to reach.
Nikki states that personal trainers can show you the best way to get the most out of your workout. If you just do the minimum in your workout (as most people do when they start at their own pace), you will not see a benefit from the gym and may give up. You also may need help with the nutrition part of your fitness plan, and personal trainers can be very helpful in this area as well.
Most personal training clients that Nikki sees end up meeting their goals on a consistent basis. This is because Nikki works at setting small goals for the clients so that she does not set them up for failure. Over time, small reasonable goals can produce very big results! Many clients can then transition out to do fitness programs on their own with the tools the gym offers. Others like to continue with personal training. Nikki thinks the reason this is the case is because there is more accountability when working with a personal trainer. These continued personal training sessions can be done in one-on-one personal training or in group personal training, depending on their needs and goals.
There are so many gyms out there that it is important to shop around until you find a gym with equipment, programs, and personal trainers that meet your needs. If you live close to Greenfield, Indiana, I highly recommend you check out Family Fun and Fitness!
