Giordano’s has been serving their world-famous stuffed pizza since 1974, when the founders, brothers Efren and Joseph Boglio, Italian immigrants, were discouraged at the lack of authentic pizza available in the Chicago area.
One of the originators of what is now known as Chicago-style Deep Dish pizza, Giordano’s has locations throughout Chicagoland, including three downtown locations (on Rush Street, in Lakeview on Belmont Avenue and in Greektown) and locations in Rosemont, Oakbrook Terrace and Willowbrook. I had the opportunity to partake in the deliciousness of their famous deep-dish, double-crusted pizza at the Greektown location at 815 W. Van Buren.
Giordano’s is unanimous love at first taste, especially taking a bite from their Super Veggie stuffed pizza loaded with mushrooms, green peppers, onions, broccoli, black olives and tomatoes. It was so delicious that we applauded the manager who said that Giordano’s is “The Ultimate Pizza”; especially with a preparation time of 30 minutes to cook Chicago’s world famous stuffed pizza, which is based off the owner’s mother’s recipe.
The other options on the menu aren’t bad either. For instance, the freshly baked Cheese Garlic Tomato Bread topped with melted mozzarella cheese and fresh tomatoes with marinara is divine.
The décor exudes red and white checked, vinyl-clothed tables in an ultra casual, tile floored pizzeria setting with flat screen TVs for ample sports viewing. If pizza isn’t on your mind, then Giordano’s offers a wide variety of fabulous pastas, salads, sandwiches and salads.
Some pastas to consider is the Chicken Oreganato made with tender breast of chicken sautéed in extra virgin olive oil and lemon butter sauce with fresh tomatoes, fresh mushrooms and leeks, with a touch of oregano. Served on a top of freshly cooked Fettuccini pasta, it’s served with salad or soup and freshly baked bread and butter. Talk about a hearty meal!
The classic Chopped Salad is made with crisp lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, mozzarella cheese, black olives andBleu cheese, tossed in olive oil vinaigrette dressing, ready for your taste buds. If you’re up for some delicious homemade meatballs, try the Meatball Sandwich with delicately spiced meatballs topped with marinara sauce on freshly baked bread.
