On Friday, October 14, 2011, Detroit’s Third New Hope Baptist Church held its Sacred Sister’s program. A full-house heard the transformative words of Rev. Dr. Elaine Flake, who leads the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica, New York, along side her husband, Rev. Dr. Floyd H. Flake.
The event was inspiring and empowering, motivating women to take advantage of “God’s fixable moments”. According to Flake, “fixable moments” are opportunities that God provides to all of us to rebound from past mistakes. Dr. Flake explained that the devil often times tricks people into believing that they are relegated to past mistakes and unable to rise from their falls.
However, as Flake states, God’s power is able to turn even bad things into good. But it is up to each individual to seize God’s opportunity. Throughout the service, Dr. Flake exclaimed to the crowd, “Don’t miss this moment”, in which she rallied people to shake off their fears and insecurities and allow God to propel them into their true destiny.
Dr. Flake lamented over the number of Christians who do not truly understand their power through Christ Jesus and His ability to right their wrongs. Often times people will allow the spirit of fear, which is from satan, to prevent them from being obedient to direct instructions from God Himself. Consequently, they miss “fixable moments” provided by God.
However, since God is merciful, He continually provides “fixable moments” through out a person’s lifetime. But the point is to move forward sooner, rather than later. Therefore, Flake encouraged people to begin overcoming fear and insecurities, through the Word of God, so that they can become the person that God created them to be.
The event was well received by attendees, who were also treated to the angelic voice of Michon Young.
Dr. Flake’s words ring true as Romans 8:28 declares; “All things work for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.”
And in addition, Joel 2:25 promises: “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten…” The locust representing the results of satan’s destructive works in a person’s life. God can give you those years back.
