Thrifty fashion helps not only the thrifty fashion shopper who has made a “find,” but also Columbia’s homeless and, with the weather getting colder, unfortunately too many will be depending upon the goodness of Oliver Gospel Mission for a hot supper and a safe indoor bed for the night. While we save money on some of the nicest new and gently-used clothing in town, we can actually help a little toward providing these badly needed serviced for the homeless.
Oliver Gospel Mission Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store at 10012 Two Notch Road (where Ace Hardware used to be) gives us yet another thrift store to add to our growing list of Columbia’s finest. The store is immaculate, shiny bright, very well lighted, laid out attractively and with spacious aisles. The staff is friendly, grateful for community support, and very helpful. There is free off-street parking and handicapped access; space is adequate but somewhat limited.
The Oliver Gospel Mission is located at 1100 Taylor Street and is well known to many people in Columbia and provides hot meals and housing for the homeless men and women in our city. They are aided in their efforts by several mission partners, including De Loache Flowers and Romano’s Macaroni Grill.
Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store has racks of children’s clothing and toys, women’s tanks, tops, tees, embellished, beaded and dressy tops, crossover tops, print, plaids, patterns and ruffles. There are also slacks, suits, sweaters, blazers and jackets, jeans, skirts, dresses, dressy dresses, shoes, and warm winter coats, parkas and vests. Everything is in good to new condition and the price range for tops is from about $, 99 to $4.99. There is a marvelous selection of shoes, including many trendy new boots in tall and ankle heights, heeled slouch and shootie styles.
There is a section for men with tees, shirts,, suit separates, jackets, jeans, men’s accessories, and more. The gleaming jewelry counter has necklaces, chic multi-bracelets, French hook earrings, a few watches, and warm seasonal hats and scarves.
Good Samaritan Family Thrift Store is surely worth adding to our favorite “fishing holes.” It also feels good to know that every piece of clothing we select and every pair of shoes we bring home helps Columbia’s homeless by providing meals and temporary shelter. Happy thrifty fashion shopping~
