The city of Elgin will offer a day and evening of Halloween events on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Elgin is in the far western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.The Halloween family friendly fun begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues through the afternoon. As afternoon turns into evening, Elgin with be more scary, with an adult appropriate zombie themed Halloween Howl: A Nightmare on Chicago Street.
Sherman Health’s Halloween Family Fun Fair will offer a kids costume contest and kid friendly activities from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) of Elgin, the City of Elgin, The Hemmens Cultural Center and Elgin Symphony Orchestra presents Elgin’s Halloween Howl: A Nightmare on Chicago Street – a day of ghosts, goblins and good times for the whole family! Highlights inlucde the Psychosis Haunted House for kids, a “Bone Hunt” archeological dig in front of The Hemmens, trick or treating and Halloween crafts. The Midwest Dance Collective, with Ellen Werksman, will offer kids the chance to learn to dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at the Chicago Street stage from 1-3 pm. A Kids Costume Photo Booth will be set up at Ken Stepps’ State Farm, from 1-4 pm.

Downtown Elgin will be taken over by zombies on Saturday night, but Chicago Street has been declared a safe zone. Windows will be boarded up and cars flipped over in the area. Local businesses will have special offers on merchandise and Halloween treats.
The evening will include a costume contest, music by local bands, Kashmir and ARRA and an appearance by Chicago legend “Svengoolie.” Actress Victoria Price, the daughter of “the king of horror” Vincent Price, will also be on hand. The Nightmare on Chicago Street will conclude with a Burlesque Show by Dancewerks Dance and a performance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Nightmare on Chicago Street runs from 6-11 pm. The event is open to those 17 and older, younger attendees must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Admission is $7. This is an outdoor festival, so warm clothing is advised. See the Nightmare on Chicago Street website for additional information.
