Hawaii Five-0 returned to CBS 2 in Queens with the season 2 premiere, “Ha’i’ole,” and the first piece of business was getting McGarrett out of prison and Five-0 reinstated.
While some, including Wo Fat, attended Jameson’s funeral, Jenna was working, Kono surfing, Danny meeting Joe at the airport, and McGarrett in prison. Denning wanted to convict him of Jameson’s murder as part of showing his zero-tolerance policy. When McGarrett stepped into the yard, the guards left their posts and Victor Hesse joined him and shanked him. Danny and Joe joined Chin at HQ, and Chin told them about seeing Wo Fat. The problem was the lack of evidence against him.
Hesse explained to Danny and Chin that he was giving McGarrett a chance to escape. Wo Fat wanted Hesse to kill McGarrett. Meanwhile, in the ambulance, McGarrett took out the EMTs. Hesse knew Wo Fat was getting ready to disappear after tying up loose ends—including him—and hoped McGarrett would get to him first.
Kono was on the case to trace Ling, one of Wo Fat’s men, while Chin and Danny worked at finding McGarrett before HPD. Meanwhile, McGarrett ducked into a gas station bathroom to tend to his bleeding wound and ended up knocking an officer out and taking his uniform and car. Joe read through Jenna’s information on Wo Fat and took a photo of a medal from John’s things off her wall. Max got home to find McGarrett bleeding in his bathroom.
Max patched up McGarrett before Danny and Chin showed up, and of course Danny had to yell at him about what he did. Chin said he’d take the police car and distract HPD—he may have the uniform but he’s still Five-0. Joe called and said he had someone he needed to talk to. Danny didn’t like it, but that wasn’t going to stop McGarrett.
They headed out in Max’s car, and Danny told him Rachel was moving back to Hawaii—and back in with Stan. He’s the father. Kono called Chin and watched Ling meet with someone—perhaps as part of Wo Fat’s deal?
Danny and McGarrett met up with Joe, who told them about the medal in the picture he took from Jenna and sent McGarrett in to talk to the recipient. The man bombed Pearl Harbor but was working at atoning for it by cleaning up the island. He had John investigating and that’s what led to everything.
Kono watched Wo Fat’s men bring cases onto a ship and identified the mystery person as Kurt Hauff before being pulled out of her car and onto the ship. Kono asked Wo Fat what he was selling to Kurt, but he wasn’t answering her questions. Jenna brought McGarrett a locker key from the toolbox, and they found a chip. On the chip was video of John in Jameson’s office. Could the camera still be there with the murder on it? However, HPD wasn’t far behind in their search for McGarrett.
At the Governor’s house, Danny and Chin found the camera in the clock. Denning walked in, and Chin explained why they were there. HPD showed up to arrest McGarrett, but Denning stopped them, declaring him innocent. They watched the video of Jameson’s murder, but couldn’t see Wo Fat’s face. McGarrett didn’t want apologies; he wanted Five-0 reinstated to go after Wo Fat. Denning agreed, but he had conditions, including taking away their immunity. IA needed to complete their investigation before Kono could be declared fit for duty.
Speaking of Kono, she was standing her own against one of Wo Fat’s men and called Chin to get to the marina. At the marina, Kono and Joe went after Kurt while the others chased after the boat. They took down Kurt and found the raw materials for a dirty bomb in his case. Meanwhile, McGarrett and Danny jumped on board the ship and, along with Chin in their boat, took out Wo Fat’s men. However Wo Fat was not on board, but there were cases of money. One of Wo Fat’s men refused to talk in interrogation and said they were supposed to meet him at the big island. McGarrett said he believed him and let him go as the bait.
The Five-0s were back in business, but they were still waiting on Kono being reinstated. That didn’t mean she couldn’t unofficially work. McGarrett found Danny looking through the surveillance footage. He found a meeting between Jameson, Wo Fat, and John. McGarrett has to wonder if his father was dirty and wanted to talk to Hesse. However, Hesse was dead at Wo Fat’s hand. Wo Fat got in Jenna’s car.
