Pepper-bellies are back and there’s only one place to find them!
The 39th Annual Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair happens the weekend of October 1st and 2nd.
A longstanding South Bay tradition, the Hometown Fair is a family occasion featuring live music, entertainment, arts & crafts, games, rides and more.
With over 200 vendors, there’s something for everyone: from ceramics and clothing, oil and water paintings to photographs and sculptures made from glass, wood and metal, the Hometown Fair merchants offer an extensive assortment of quality craftsmanship. Exhibitors are by invitation only so as to provide a unique selection of items.
There will be a wide variety of edibles available for your dining pleasure and booths are staffed by non-profit organizations only. Be on the look-out for the always popular, local favorite pepper-bellies!
The very popular Beer Garden is located on Dorsey Field at the north end of the fairgrounds and opens at 10:00 am on Saturday and Sunday. Beer tickets are available until 4:30 pm.
The Wine Garden is located at the basketball courts, which can be reached via Live Oak Fields. The Wine Garden will serve premium wines in a casual and comfortable garden-like setting.
The Main Stage is located on Dorsey Field near the Beer Garden and will feature the Annual Battle of the Bands on Saturday. Local amateur bands audition in early September and the finalists will battle for the title and a $500 cash prize. The Main Stage will feature entertainment throughout the weekend.
Children of all ages get to enjoy free games. Races and games are categorized by age groups 4-7, 8-12, 14-18 and 19+ for the adults. Games typically include a water balloon toss, a 3-legged race, a sack race, an egg toss and others. All game winners in each age group receive prizes that have been generously donated by local merchants. For children under 4, there is a magician performing both days at the Tot Lot, a Treasure Hunt for toys, roaming clowns and the famous Toddler Trot and Diaper Derby races.
Several more activities and events are scheduled to take place including pony rides, a petting zoo and lizard show. The Vamphear Circus returns by popular demand with acts scheduled all day Saturday and Sunday.
There’s so much going on you might want to put together a game plan to take advantage of everything the Hometown Fair has to offer. Whatever you do, don’t forget the pepper-bellies!
The Hometown fair is located in the general area of Live Oak, Dorsey Field and the Joslyn Center in Manhattan Beach. Parking is available with free shuttle service.
