Hearts for Hounds is a local volunteer group that works in conjunction with the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. Dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for dogs living outdoors in Montgomery County, Hearts for Hounds has a variety of assistance options available.
Each dog being assisted must be spayed or neutered, but Hearts for Hounds can help dog owners obtain this procedure for their dog at a low cost and will even provide transportation to and from the procedure. Hearts for Hounds can also provide new dog houses or improve existing ones, provide blankets, straw, tarp or umbrella for shade, and provide toys, treats, and rawhide bones, Medicated shampoos, flea medications, and vaccine assistance is available, along with provision of baby gates or dog crates so the dog can be in the house.
Harnesses can be provided when appropriate; to get chains off dogs’ necks and cable runners and trolleys are available to increase the area that a chained dog has to move around. H4H will even walk the dog on a regular basis and/or provide playtime for the dog! They will work with dog owners to house-train their dog, and they aim to educate dog owners and the community about the detrimental effects of chaining a dog.
H4H is providing the manpower and resources to do all of this for dogs in our community who unfortunately are still living outdoors; the least we can do is help support them in their efforts.
Hearts for Hounds has a wish list with a great variety of items on it – won’t you please look around and see if you can provide any of these items for them? This is a great time to clean out that garage or storage shed and put some of those unused items to use for improving the conditions of outdoor dogs in our community.
