Here’s a newsflash for Herman Cain: African-Americans are just like other voters. Like other voters, they tend to think what’s best for them and what’s also best for their country. History bears this out. That explains how black Americans went from largely voting for the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln to voting for Democrats ever since the Franklin D. Roosevelt era. African Americans migrated to the party that they saw most embraced the goal of equal opportunity and spoke to their desire for justice- the Democrat Party. It has been the Democrats who have long fought for civil rights and affirmative action, and economic and social justice for all.
Herman Cain is looking out for Herman Cain not for most African Americans. The former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza is another right-wing millionaire who doesn’t want to pay his fair share of taxes. Instead he wants a fair tax that would replace all federal personal and corporate income taxes with a national sales tax and does away with a tax on income from capital gains, interest, or royalties of any kind. So in other words the rich continue to get richer from their stock and investment portfolios and the middle class get stuck with a 23% sales tax on goods and services.
Moreover, Cain represents a party whose policies do not benefit African Americans in any way, shape, or form. Cain doesn’t agree with the minimum wage, national healthcare, and collective bargaining. Cain also does not agree with affirmative action, a policy that attempts to bridge inequalities in employment and pay and access to education. Yes- things have gotten better over the years on the discrimination front, but let’s not kid ourselves- racial and gender discrimination still exists, particularly out in the workplace.
Finally, Cain has some nerve asking African Americans or any American for that matter to consider joining his Tea Party movement. The same party that includes ignorant jerks carrying those racist signs at the Tea Party rallies that read “Obama supports white slavery”. The same Tea Party that includes protesters shouting obscenities at members of the Congressional Black Caucus, spat on at least one black lawmaker and confronted an openly gay congressman with taunts.
I bet Cain is a big fan of Rush Limbaugh’s. You know Limbaugh of “Barack the Magic Negro, do, do, do, do, fame.
