A low pressure system over Kentucky will move northward towards the Great Lakes region tonight. As it does so, it will intensify into a potent Autumn storm that will affect millions with high winds, heavy rainfall, coastal flooding from Chicago and Milwaukee to Detroit.
You can call today the calm before the storm. Thickening cloud cover is what to show for today ahead of the storm. The winds will begin to strengthen and rain coverage/intensity will increase this evening from southeast to northwest as an intensifying low pressure system moves northward toward the region.
The storm will last from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon with the worst occurring from Wednesday afternoon/evening to Thursday morning. Winds will be sustained 30-40 mph with gust as high as 60 mph. Rain amounts by Thursday afternoon will be on the order of 1-3″+ (heaviest for areas along the lake).
Possible impacts from the storm:
- 20-30ft waves
- Lakeshore flooding
- Beach erosion
- Dangerous rip currents during and after storm passes
- Power outages
