Being in the top five on some lists is an occasion for celebration. But no area would intentionally want to land on a list compiled by RealtyTrac. In this list, the Vallejo-Fairfield Metropolitan Statistical Area ranks in third place nationwide with the highest foreclosure ratings compared to other US areas with 200,000 or more residents. (Las Vegas and Modesto, respectively, rank #1 and #2).
Solano County ranks 3rd nationwide
What these numbers, which equate in 2011 to about 100 foreclosure filings per month in Solano County, don’t even begin to reflect are the struggles, disappointments and disruptions that families deal with when they face the spector of foreclosure. We haven’t seen much in the media about HERA so we thought we could give it a shout-out at this website.
HERA, Housing and Economic Rights Advocates, is an Oakland-based organization that offers a wide range of services to residents of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area who experience housing and other economic discrimination. In the area of fair housing, their attornies provide legal advice and counseling in-person and over the phone to the public on housing discrimination problems.
They encourage residents who feel that they are the victim of discrimination in trying to access or maintain housing or in connection with homeownership, to call them at (510) 271-8443. HERA also accepts email queries, including those from fair housing organizations, community based organizations, and governmental entities, addressing them to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Additionally HERA’s legal services for consumers include legal advice and counseling in-person and over the phone about predatory lending issues (including advice to tenants in buildings that have been foreclosed on), and legal representation for low- and moderate-income victims of predatory lending and foreclosure related abuses. Their direct representation of consumers is at this time, limited primarily to those living in the Greater Bay Area but also extends into California’s Central Valley
