This forecast is not your salvation if you are needing big time rainfall. But I would call it a start of sorts, since the texture of the prediction is a change, of sorts, from the litany of “sun/hot/dry” calls seen in media through the past four months. The biggest shift is in the overall wind direction, which moves from southwest to the southeast. That type of breeze is from the Gulf of Mexico, so at the very least the word “humid” will make a safe return to Houston area weather outlooks.
As for the possibility for rainfall, I admit that no widespread threats for heavier precipitation exist through the next week or so. The strongest dynamics will be over the central Great Plains and along the East Coast, of course regions far removed from SE TX. Houston should experience a weak formation of a frontal structure that will hang around, in some form or another, into early next week. Combined with sea breeze convective potential, there is good reason to think that at least a stray shower or thunderstorm may move your way after a rather warm and humid day. Not that hot, mind you, so again these little improvements in the forecast have to be enjoyed for what they are. That is, minor deviations from the historic heat and drought of the summer of 2011.
