This (fairly) new website, Pinterest.com, is a great social sharing site that hosts millions of things we all love. Login through your Facebook account and see what your Facebook Friends love too. See an image on the web that you love? Pin it, stash it in one of your Pinterest online albums and share it; online scrapbooking made easy. Forget inspiration boards filled with bulky card stock images glued and arranged, sitting on your floor. This site is an online inspiration board that can be easily changed, deleted and can be kept neatly away inside your computer.
If you’ve never heard of it but would like to start using it, here are a few steps to get you started. First, you must receive an invitation.
Type in pinterest.com into your browser. It will load and you’ll see the virtual pin board as well as a few things other people love. Click on ‘Request an Invite’ on the top left of the page. Simply type in your e-mail address and wait. Invite should come in within a day or so.
Once you’ve received the confirmation email, follow the link and set up your new account. Very exciting! Go ahead and add the ‘pinning’ tool to your toolbar. Now just click that and you’ll be able to add any photo you see on any website (minus Facebook) to the Pinterest album you create.
Now you’re on your own account and if you login using your Facebook account, you’ll notice you’re already following your Facebook Friends that have Pinterest too. Take a look around at their boards for inspiration and see how everything is set up. You can also link your Pinterest account to your Twitter as well.
Now you’re ready to start filling your boards. You can add photos to your boards by ‘repining’ others’ photos using the search tool at the top, from websites, or upload photos you already have on your computer.
Let’s talk tabs- from left to right. You’ll see your number of boards, number of pins, anything you’ve ‘liked’ and if you’ve been mentioned in anyone’s pins.
Moving right, you’ll see your name tab that features a drop down menu with your boards, your pins, preferences and logout. Use this tab to manage your account. Next comes the ‘Boards’ tab, also featuring a drop down menu with ‘Staff Favorites’. The clever and creative people behind this site have their own pin boards too, you’ll see theirs here.
Just to the right of ‘Boards’ is the ‘About’ tab. Help, Jobs, Copyright and Blog are here. Tip: subscribe to the Blog, way worth it.
Now you can begin with the help of this basic information. For more examples visit my Pinterest. http://pinterest.com/jaymelane/
