In honor of breast cancer awareness month, every pizza purchased during the month of October at Hungry Howie’s Pizzas throughout Michigan and across the country a donation will be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
In a statement released today by Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October has been a time to reaffirm the nation’s commitment to fighting breast cancer, and to serve as a reminder of the importance of prevention and early detection.
Breast cancer remains one of the most frequently diagnosed cancers among American women and the second leading cause of cancer death. In this year alone, it is estimated that more than 230,000 United States women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and nearly 40,000 will die of the disease. But breast cancer isn’t restricted to women, men can get breast cancer too. According to the American Cancer Society’ estimates for breast cancer in men for 2011, about 2,140 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed among men and about 450 men will die from the disease.
