Nu Vizion World Harvest Ministries (http://nuvizion.weebly.com/) had a men’s day last Sunday, October 23, 2011, at their location in Wilmington, DE. Church of the Living Word Outreach Ministries’ own Pastor Walter L. Archy was a guest preacher. Pastor Archy is a dynamic preacher- always emphasizing faith in the Word and acting accordingly. He gives relevant, real life examples of how to put God’s Word into action in today’s world.
Sunday night’s message was about the transformation of a boy to a man of God with the exploration of 1 Corinthians 13:11. Pastor Archy discussed the need for all of us to become mature spiritually, and having this maturity reflected in our actions. He talked about realizing that we cannot blame others for our own immature actions and attitudes. This especially important for men because men have been ordained by God to be the leader or head of the family unit (Ephesians 5:23).
Pastor Archy went on to give an example using two members of the congregation, one representing a boy and the other representing a mature man. Pastor Archy explained how we learn by example, stating that boys learn something as simple as going to the bathroom by watching the male parent (after all, boys do start by sitting as opposed to standing- and no, the two men did NOT give a live demonstration of this example- just had to be clear on that). The two men illustrated how boy comes to understand how and what it means to become a man- the older man walked, and the boy follows. And when the immature boy rebels against the older man saying (with attitude- any one have an adolescent?) “Why should I follow you?”, he is reminded “You wouldn’t even know how to use the bathroom if it wasn’t for me”. The illustration ended with the boy walking and following his example long enough to be able to do just as the older man with out watching and following- the boy had become a man who walked and talked and lived just as his example; his model.
This brought us home to the main point of the message- we need to be aware of the example we are setting for young people. People who are physically young (children) and spiritually young (people who are newly born again) need an example, or a model, of what it is to be spiritually mature. One of the preachers present in the building that night later stated “we are living n a time of the fatherless”. For this reason, we need more men to be an example for our youth. It is time to mature and behave the way we want are children to behave. It is time to put childish things away. For those of us sitting there saying “I have no example” remember- Jesus Christ is our greatest and ultimate example. He knows what it is like to live in this flesh, walk this world, be tempted, be human, and come out victorious. Another human example is good, but Christ is far better than any other person we will ever come into contact with.
