A couple of film festival hits, a comedy, and the 3D rerelease of a Disney classic all hit theaters in wide release this Friday. What will you be checking out?
“Drive”: In this action-filled crime drama directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Ryan Gosling plays a Hollywood stuntman who takes on some illegal jobs as a driver on the side. But after a heist he is a part of goes wrong and a contract is put on him, he must get more involved than he would like to. Runtime: 100 minutes. Rated R for strong brutal bloody violence, language, and some nudity.
“Straw Dogs”: Written and directed by Rod Lurie, this thriller stars James Marsden as David Sumner, a Hollywood screenwriter who moves with his wife Amy (Kate Bosworth) to her hometown in the South, where tensions build between them and the locals that quickly become threatening. Runtime: 110 minutes. Rated R for strong brutal violence including a sexual attack, menace, some sexual content and pervasive language.
“I Don’t Know How She Does It”: This comedy directed by Douglas McGrath follows Kate Reddy (Sarah Jessica Parker), a businesswoman who must juggle her job and being the sole source of income for her family. Runtime: 95 minutes. Rated PG-13 for adult situations and language.
“The Lion King 3D”: In theaters for a limited time only is a rerelease of the 1994 Disney animated classic “The Lion King”. Newly restored with added 3D effects, the film traces the journey of Simba, a lion cub who struggles with his identity after the death of his father but ultimately rises to take his place as King. Runtime: 89 minutes. Rated G.
