CASTING CALL: SHORT FILM-“RIVER BLUES”: PAID ROLES
This short film showcases the slow destruction of a small business through the eyes of some of its citizens. Script runs approx. 20 minutes. Scenes are quiet, dramatic looks/appearance driven, minimal dialogue but extensive use of character, costume and settings.
MARK: 50’s-60’s: son who inherited small-town drug store now on its last legs.
MILDRED: 60’s-70’s: sits and watches cars go by outside her seldom-visited hair dressing shop in the basement of her home.
JIM: 30’s-40’s: former athlete who blew out his knee but still manages to deliver mail and recall the good old days.
HENRY: 50’s-70’s: town drunk, biker, too big to ride his hog which stands rusted out outside the bar.
BILLY: 20’s: lawyer looking to set up practice.
JEANIE: 20’S: works night shift at “blues bar”.
HARRY: 20’s-40’s: bartender.
MAGGIE: 40’s: divorced owner of bar.
MUD: 20’s: town clown; runs gas station.
JERSEY: 30’s-50’s: flamboyant owner of antiques store.
RUFF: poodle who never goes outside.
FILMING: two weekends in November and/or early December. Look will be cold, lifeless. Overnight shoot on a Monday or Tuesday in mid-November. No shooting over Thanksgiving. Most roles need only 2 days of shooting but it may require different weekends. Outdoor shooting required–warm-up tents, proper facilities and food available. Immediate reimbursement for gas to and from location, Small stipend: $50 per day.
