Hailing from Cobourg, Ontario, Dawn James is a multi-talented artist. This pianist became a writer, speaker and healer following a near-death experience in 2003. I am pleased to feature her today.
Cendrine Marrouat: Hello Dawn, thank you for answering my questions. Your book, titled “Raise Your Vibrations, Transform Your Life,” is based on the premise that raising your personal vibration will help improve your health and increase your energy and inner peace. Why did you choose to write on this particular topic?
Dawn James: Khalil Gibran has a poem called “Joy and Sorrow,” and he explains that in order to know Joy you must know Sorrow. This poem mirrors my own life.
For almost 20 years, I had a very stressful career which negatively impacted my health and personal life, but following my near death experience a few years ago—I was given the opportunity to experience joy, freedom and a profound sense of love…and I wanted to share with others how I made the transformation from stressful to stress free, from inner conflict to inner peace form living ‘in my head’ to living ‘in my heart’. Each chapter in the book “Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life” shares ways, techniques and exercises to experience this.
CM: In this day and age, people are bombarded with noise and violence. How can your book truly help them reconnect with their inner wisdom?
DJ: I weave the concept of conscious living throughout the book “Raise Your Vibration, Transform Your Life.” Conscious living means taking time to reflect, to think, to ponder, to observe WHAT you are creating each moment, HOW you are responding to situations. The concepts and techniques in the book help strengthen your ability to stop ‘knee-jerk’ reactions to life, and start appreciating the silence as you learn to withdraw from noise and negativity – your ability to listen to your true voice, true inner wisdom becomes stronger.
CM: Would you share a short extract from the book?
We are creators and we live to create. Every choice that we make creates consequences—for others as well as for ourselves.
Are you consciously aware of what you are creating, and do you fully accept the consequences of your choices?. . . . When you are the master of your mind, you can enjoy inner peace and happiness. External forces, events, circumstances will not sway you nor overpower your peace of mind.
These abilities are essential for self-growth and spiritual growth.
CM: You have been playing the piano since the age of three. What role has this instrument played in your spiritual development?
DJ: Piano was my outlet to express my creativity. I would play for hours at a time. Music comforted me and gave me a sense of peace, joy and freedom. I also studied music theory and enjoyed creating various harmonics. Music supported my spiritual development by activating my ability to expand consciousness – especially when playing such instruments as Tibetan bowls, and crystal singing bowls. I applied certain sound frequencies with breath work and meditation to raise my vibration and develop myself spiritually. The ultimate goal, I believe, is to achieve harmony in all aspects of our lives while on this physical plane, and using music helps me achieve that.
End of part 1.
