If anyone does remember back to the days of the classic comic strip “Calvin and Hobbes,” one of the best running gags was when Calvin would create his own ridiculously complicated game on “Calvinball,” and then he would run around playing it religiously to the complete confusion of everyone else around.
Ultimately, this is exactly what Thursday night’s episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” felt like. Dee and Dennis introduced us to their own ridiculous game, and forced the gang to do all sorts of ridiculous things in order to come out on top (including throwing darts at Dennis’ hand, asking trivia questions, and getting locked in a dog kennel). It was funny, random, and one of the few “Sunny” episodes where the entire ordeal was shot inside of Paddy’s Pub.
Was this the funniest episode of “Sunny” we have ever seen? Probably not, but we really learned more about the characters here than anywhere else — including Dennis and Dee’s selfishness, Mac’s rage, and even Frank’s secret desire to fit in even when he acts like he doesn’t want it.
