Love is a beautiful thing. Falling in love is wonderful, but if the relationship ends it can be very sad. Hopefully, everyone will experience true love at least once during their life. The words in Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam:27, 1850 speaks the truth:
I hold it true, whate’er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
‘Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
Why do breakups hurt so much, even when the relationship is no longer good? A divorce or breakup is painful because it represents the loss, not just of the relationship, but also of shared dreams and commitments. Romantic relationships begin on a high note of excitement and hope for the future. When these relationships fail, we experience profound disappointment, stress, and grief, according to helpguide.com.
A breakup or divorce launches us into uncharted territory. Everything is disrupted: your routine and responsibilities, your home, your relationships with extended family and friends, and even your identity. A breakup brings uncertainty about the future. What will life be like without your partner? Will you find someone else? Will you end up alone? These unknowns often seem worse than an unhappy relationship.
Recovering from a breakup or divorce is difficult. However, it’s important to know and to keep reminding yourself that you can and will move on. But healing takes time, so be patient with yourself.
According to ABC News Kevin Dolak, Jennifer Lopez, who has remained steadfastly silent about her split from husband Marc Anthony this summer, broke down on stage this weekend while performing a song about past love.
The 42-year-old singer-actress was performing Saturday at Connecticut hotel and casino Mohegan Sun’s 15th anniversary celebration when she broke down in tears and reportedly ran off stage during a performance of her song “Until It Beats No More.”
“I’m going to sing you the last song I wrote about love,” Lopez said to the audience after an acoustic version of her hit “If You Had My Love”. “A lot has changed since then.”
Following the performance of that song Lopez launched into “Until It Beats No More” as dancers who looked like Lopez’s past loves P. Diddy, Ben Affleck and Cris Judd performed choreographed dances.
According to People Magazine, the final dance closely resembled the one performed by Lopez and Anthony on “American Idol” in May.
“I took a trip down memory lane,” Lopez said, and then began to sob on stage.
