The series finale of “Kate Plus 8” was a mash-up of an elongated clip show and a fond farewell through intimate interview. The finale featured quite a few laughs and memorable moments, but the episode also touched on a sensitive (and very well known) topic: Kate and Jon Gosselin’s divorce.
Kate has never been shy in talking about Jon or her divorce, and she continued that trend on finale night. In fact, Kate’s babysitter Ashley opened up about seeing the first signs of Jon and Kate’s relationship tearing at the seams.
Comparing it to seeing one’s own parents struggle through marriage hardship, Ashley said, “I knew it was coming.”
Kate went into more depth, making a point to say that the TLC reality show had nothing to do with her marriage ending:
“All the signs were there. If you turned on the camera and caught it, great. If not, it would’ve happened anyway.”
Cut to, of course, an old clip of an angry Kate yelling at Jon as he rollerblades down the street—far, far away from his own children on scooters.
“He makes me so mad,” Kate said in the clip.
And who can forget the ultimate cringeworthy moment in “Plus 8” history—the day Kate Gosselin verbally castrated Jon in the toy store. Yelling at him from across aisles and belittling him in the parking lot (Jon felt he was being treated like a “dog”), it was clear Jon and Kate were two very different people, forcing their lives to come together in an incomprehensible fashion.
