The USC Trojans will be without two key backups, tight end Christian Thomas and linebacker Marquis Simmons, for the remainder of the season.
Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin announced Wednesday that the sophomore Thomas and the red-shirt sophomore Simmons would miss the rest of the season after undergoing season-ending procedures.
Against Syracuse, Thomas aggravated a hip injury that has bothered him throughout Fall Practice. The 6-foot-3 tight end recorded 3 tackles on special teams this season.
Simmons has missed the last two games after suffering a neck injury and has been limited in practice. The Compton, CA native made 1 tackle in the season-opener against Minnesota.
With the two players out for the year, USC will be forced to rely on senior tight end Ross Cumming to handle Thomas’ duties, while freshman linebacker Tre Madden is expected to see his role expand.
