We topped out at 97 degrees on Friday which was a tie for the hottest day of 2011! We will make a run for the upper 90s again today, and it’s possible that our hottest temperature of the year may be broken. An upper level ridge of high pressure over the Ohio valley today will keep us hot and dry, but it will weaken rapidly later this evening. A strong disturbance in the atmosphere will swing a cold front through our neck of the woods late on Sunday. An initial batch of dying thunderstorms may make its way in here early Sunday morning, but we’ll have to watch for a new line to develop later in the day. The Storm Prediction Center has placed central Ohio in a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather tomorrow afternoon. Any storms that form will be capable of producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and perhaps even some damaging winds or large hail. The storms will be scattered throughout most of the day. The cold front will push through late Sunday evening and dry us out into Labor Day. However, we’ll likely see some clouds lingering for most of the day. If you have any plans outside Monday, it does look dry.
The next challenge in the forecast is what happens to the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee currently moving on shore in Louisiana. Most models are showing the moisture being lifted north into the lower Ohio Valley by midweek. As of right now, it looks like the extremely heavy rain will dissipate for the most part before it gets here. However, the lingering moisture could produce persistent clouds and scattered showers from Wednesday on. The exact track of where this system goes will determine how long the gloomy weather sticks around. At the very least, we are expecting a much cooler week than this past. Highs will drop from the middle 80s on Sunday all the way into the lower 70s by early next week. Stay tuned for updates on what effects Lee’s remnant moisture may have on central Ohio!
